No really it is, the game is not my favorite Mario, of the 3D ones, it's definitely my least favorite, if I was to rank them, I'd say:

Odyssey
Milky way
64
Galaxy 2
3D Globe
3D Country
Sunshine

Simply permit'southward not talk nigh this. The final dominate, after y'all finally reach Coronoa Mountain, you finally meet Bowser and he gives a very bad stereotypical Dad line "Mario! How dare you lot disturb my family vacation!" The terminal battle is over in a minute and a half, all yous have to do is knock the bathtub over and you win. It'south so like shooting fish in a barrel and disappointing, that'southward why I rate Galaxy 1's final boss so highly, sure, information technology's not any harder, just at least it feels similar you're FIGHTING Bowser on a boxing that has scales and stakes.

I hold with the battle being easy, but you have to admit that the entire volcano section was extremely hard (not considering of the boat controls or anything).

All the same ane of my favorite Mario games, though!

Milky way two was worst. They had this epic last boss score that you're lucky to hear 30 seconds of.
  • #v

Eh. A little more forgiving of that.

I'm more than bothered by how half assed the last obstacle course is than the boss.
Like they just spilled some gimmicked spike/burn platforms, threw in that one boat asset from noki bay and lastly some ill fitting, out of place clouds.

By comparing Bowser is pretty....average!

Getting the blue coins was a bitch. Only... fuck the blue coins in this game.

It's dumb, but at least its unique. Looking at you Odyssey and 64...

Plus it uses the most fun FLUUD add on.

I cant take anyone seriously who thinks sunshine is even close to the worst 3d mario game.

Not in a world where Wart exists (Super Mario Bros 2) and the final Bowser fight in Super Mario Run (it's the Super Mario Bros 1 final boss with Bowser on a bridge, but you fourth dimension when to run under him or leap over him).
  • #xv
Yup. Absolutely awful and anti-climactic. Also ran similar poo, with loads of slowdown.

The game was conspicuously unfinished when information technology released and this boss fight is a prime number example of how the game suffered every bit a result.

Non in a world where Wart exists (Super Mario Bros 2) and the concluding Bowser fight in Super Mario Run (information technology's the Super Mario Bros 1 concluding boss with Bowser on a bridge, but you time when to run under him or leap over him).
What's wrong with Wart?

  • #17
The existent final boss was that awful boat you lot had to drive backwards.
  • #18

Well, he keeps his ane weakness in THE SAME ROOM.
  • #nineteen
Well the game was rushed as Sunshine is the only 3D Mario game to lack a full fledged final level leading up to the terminal boss showdown.
KillstealWolf
  • #twenty
Well, he keeps his one weakness in THE Same ROOM.

And Bowser places his ain logo on the buttons that destroy the bridge he is on, your point?
Dusk Golem

This comes downward to stance a fleck I admit, simply while grabbing and throwing stuff is the core mechanic of Super Mario Bros 2, only it'due south just a boring fight. You stand effectually waiting for a machine to shoot vegetables at you lot, occasionally yous dodge a bubble, then when you lot become the vegetable you throw information technology into Wart's mouth when it's open. Rinse and repeat five more times. Information technology'south simply a ho-hum dominate battle, allow alone a final dominate battle.

Super Mario Sunshine's final boss isn't slap-up, only at least Bowser chilling in a tub and doin ground pounds from 30 feet in the air is more interesting that waiting for a car to toss out a vegetable while you occasionally dodge a bubble.

The real final dominate was that atrocious boat you had to drive backwards.
How tf did that get through play testing

Odyssey had something much more incredible than simply a final boss fight. Information technology wins by default.

True cat Bowser exists OP. One of the worst last boss of all time.
the sheer concept of bowser using all of your powerups against you alone pushes it over sunshines hot tub rumble

I didn't hate information technology? The liquid physics were cool for the fourth dimension, it had calibration to it, and it used rocket, the best FLUDD ability. Bosses are never the highlight of Mario games, and then "fine" is good enough.

  • #26
How are you gonna take Bowser in a bath and obscure everything? This was a chance to revolutionise the scaly fanservice game and they wasted it.
Falcon511
  • #27
Yeah it really wasn't great. I didn't like getting to the dominate either. Going in the boat to steer information technology using FLUD was hard and frustrating. I enjoyed many parts of that game. The setting, the music, environments, platforming, characters. Just the blue coins and the terminal dominate fight ticked me off.
  • #28
the sheer concept of bowser using all of your powerups against you solitary pushes it over sunshines hot tub rumble

This.

OP nails information technology. The other abrasive part about that battle is that it's the only fourth dimension in the game that the rocket powered ground pound is actually used.

The whole game is just half baked, it'due south why an HD re-release of Sunshine is so problematic and may be unlikely because there are so many things that would take to exist fixed or overhauled to brand it worthwhile, information technology'd have to be a significant remake.

  • #30
Not in a world where Wart exists (Super Mario Bros 2) and the final Bowser fight in Super Mario Run (information technology'southward the Super Mario Bros 1 final boss with Bowser on a bridge, but you time when to run under him or spring over him).
Did we play different SMRs? I call back the final boss being Bowser in the Clown Car.

Thematically fighting Bowser in his hot tub is astonishing, such a wasted opportunity
  • #33
SMS might be the worst game of all time. Bubsy 3d was meliorate.

...I wouldn't go that far.
  • #34
The bulk of Mario bosses suck, to exist off-white.
  • #35
I beloved Sunshine for all the things information technology did right but this fight is a dumpster fire.

It sucks that the framerate tanks in that fight as well. The game was originally supposed to be 60FPS and since they capped information technology at 30fps correct at the cease of development, having the game withal accept sever framerate drops in the final battle is inexcusable garbage. This fight is by far the worst part of the game, even if it's merely i minute long.

It's fifty-fifty more disappointing when considering how lackluster the final fight in Mario 64 was, as it was basically just a repeat of the previous ii Bowser fights but even that was far more than preferable than this. The fact that the devs couldn't be bothered to make a better boss fight than that, despite the v year gap between games is depressing.

Bosses in 3D Mario games have never been the potent accommodate of these games but to drop the ball this bad in the final battle is really something else.

Oh and Bowser is Galaxy 2 Bowser size in SMS for some reason?

  • #36
True cat Bowser exists OP. One of the worst concluding boss of all time.

What, no! Cat Bowser was brilliant, I had a big stupid smiling on my face for the entire elapsing of it.

It doesn't experience that much lamer than any of the others to me tbh. They're all incredibly shallow and easy final bosses. I mean it'south not much worse than what's in Odysee. Only they're kids games I find it difficult to criticise them too harshly for information technology.

  • #39
I didn't finish the game but U can tell it really sucks from what I've seen.
Bosses in 3D Mario games have never been the strong suit of these games but to drop the ball this bad in the last boxing is really something else.
Dominate battles in Galaxy 1/ii + Odyssey "Without counting the Broodals fights" are adept since they utilize some cool mechanics or power ups. Sometimes they at to the lowest degree wait fantastic like bowser'southward fights in Galaxy ane/2 with their great soundtrack, aesthetic design and/or bowser'south moveset. I'm not a big fan of how you end True cat Bowser's fight in 3D Globe but the escaping segment was absurd. I as well liked the one on Odyssey with its epic escaping segment, too. Sunshine's terminal dominate lacks everything I mentioned, mostly. They could accept utilized the FLUDD mechanics in a cool way. But it was clearly rushed.

That whole last "stage" is the worst in Mario games, especially the last fight. You lot can tell that the last quarter of the game was rushed.

Astonishing game. Every 3D Mario is a masterpiece

Information technology was literally only a QTE sequence. Similar yous didn't fight him at all, you only dodged him until y'all got to the elevation and that'southward it.
  • #44
Yes, but as others have said the whole concluding stage is a atrocity.
Vert1
  • #45
Doing a basis pound 30 feet in the air and having the stage crumble (stage destruction!) as a result and then being forced to leap dorsum onto the main stage before falling into the abyss is far more than impressive than the rehashed Bowser fight in Galaxy. The fight definitely should have been more challenging though. All the elements were there to make it tough: Bowser's huge fire breath attack, swarms of Bullet bills, overflowing toxic hot tub water.

Super Mario 64'south terminal dominate still hasn't been topped.

The majority of Mario bosses suck, to be fair.

Not in my experience. Loved virtually if non all of the Galaxy ones.

Odysseys were solid, LOVED seaside kingdom and forrest bosses.

It was literally only a QTE sequence. Similar you lot didn't fight him at all, you just dodged him until you got to the top and that's it.
It wasn't QTEs at all, you're using the regular mechanics of the game. That's also what fabricated it then good, since it was basically a platforming claiming as opposed to regular bosses in Mario games where yous're fighting and doing stuff you don't ordinarily do in most levels. It works better equally an actual culmination given the typical gameplay you're engaged with.
